  1. I was just wondering, what your speed depends on? Like, does the hard-drive interface affect the speed of download?
  2. BEFORE :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 5230 Kbps about 5.2 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 638 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Fri Dec 16 21:10:14 PST 2005 Bottom Line:: 93X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.61 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 95.22 % faster than the average for host (shawcable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-EMA2QS3X1 O.O Thank you (to both of you!) so very much =) I just tried downloading a few files from download.com, and they were averaging at about 1mb/s. But on a different website, it started at 200kB/s, but then VERY quickly dropped to 40kb/s. Actually, at download.com, it started at about 1.3mb/s but also dropped very quickly to about 1mb/s and in the 800/900's as the download progressed. Do you know why this is? And why some servers have slower speeds? Thanks. Also, you said: 'With cablenut upen, run the .ccs file which is closest to your advertised speeds (I'd suggest starting with "Cable & DSL 6000 384.ccs"). ' So, should I change it again, or just continue with that speed? Thanks =)
  3. O.K. The URL you posted, I'm going to answer each number =) 1. What OS are you running? Windows XP. That p2p fix for SP2, do I really need to d/l it? I'm really trying to increase my d/l speed using the internet, I'm not interested with p2p d/l speeds right now. 2. ISP = Shaw, I think it advertised 5mbps or was it 7? 3. Haven't installed/used any tweaking utilities. Heres the DSLreports website report: http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweakr/block:447cb70?service=cable&speed=5000&os=winXP&via=normal 4. I told you my speed already =)
  4. Thanks for the fast reply, Whats a traceroute? =P, I'm a complete noobie. Who your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is: Shaw (shaw.ca) I haven't installed any tweaking utilities yet. Thanks.
  5. I'm having some trouble with my connection. Now, I'm really new to most of this so I probably won't understand what a lot of you say. Anyways, I recently switched from ADSL to Cable, and I'm pretty sure that the cable's speed was advertised as much more than ADSL. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2528 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 309 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Fri Dec 16 18:51:26 PST 2005 Bottom Line:: 45X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.31 sec Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 94.4 % of your hosts average (shawcable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-KI2TX9HFS I think the Cable was advertised at 5 Mbps or 7Mbps. and, I think the ADSL was advertised at 1.5 Mbps. Anyways, I really cannot see any difference. My download speeds (using IE) are usually even slower on Cable than when I had ADSL. When I had ADSL, I would download a file using IE and it would be about 110~200 kb/s. Now, for the same file, it rarely goes up above 100. Thanks. Any help is appreciated =)
