  1. Hi everyone, Like many others here, I'm new to satellite access (had both cable and DSL in past, sob!), have a DW6000 wireless networked to 2 notebooks, a Dell & Gateway (both XP boxes) and hard wired to an old Winbook running Windows 98. I'm also in northern CA, not far from real DSL access, just far enough out not to be able to get it. Best dialup access I can get here is 28.8. Download speeds vary greatly between machines, have enabled TCP Optimizer per Rev, but have not seen drastic improvement. Recent states on the Gateway, which is by far the fastest: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 941 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 748 KB) Download Speed is:: 115 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Thu Feb 3 22:08:34 PST 2005 Bottom Line:: 17X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.9 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-1G2XR5NMT Upload is pathetic when I can get the test to work at all: :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 8 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 KB) Upload Speed is:: 1 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Thu Feb 3 22:12:12 PST 2005 Bottom Line:: 0X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 1024 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-GP0DVJEMX I think Direcway has some false advertising going on, they don't mention the ridiculous upload at all, at least I couldn't find it. Except for later in the evening, surfing is next to impossible. Data may move fairly fast, but waiting 30 seconds or longer per page to move it does't equal speed. I lug the Dell to work and dialup via SBC at 50.6, and it's much faster than DW for basic surfing, except for moving large files via Direcway. I must confess, DW moves large files down pretty well when it's working. Is it worth the bucks? I don't think so - gonna try and get Direcway to extend the 30 day trial to sort out the Dell's problems (it used to scream on Yahoo DSL before I moved to the sticks) and speed up the surfing, especially the upload, if not, it's going back. Oh yea, if anyone's concerned about offshoring, the first layer help reps are in India. Anyone out there really happy with the DW6000?
