  1. It's significant for dial-up. What makes IE so fast? @brock01: Not the DL speed, but the difference between 43-58kbps.
  2. What extensions are you running on FF? What toolbars do you have installed in IE? FF: Fasterfox 1.0.3 & Yahoo! Toolbar IE: No toolbars I suppose this could account for the difference, but I really don't know.
  3. Ok, here's the 579kb test. Still a significant difference: IE: :::.. Isn't FF supposed to be faster? The FF page speeds are infinitely better than IE's, but why is IE faster with downloads?
  4. Usually 50.6kbps, occasionally lower or higher. What I really want to know is what causes the significant difference. It's weird, unless IE just has a burst speed while it tests. It takes longer to load the 'downloading data" page in IE than in Firefox.
  5. IE: :::.. I enjoy FF more, but if IE is that fast, well...
  6. Cholla, your link didn't really help because it says there's no estimate. Guess I'll have to call later. I will reply when 8.81MB download finishes. EDIT: DL is done. 8.81MB file size, downloaded in 30 min 6 sec, averaging 4.5 to 5 kbps.
  7. No double modems, not sure of the distance(what's a good site for this?), just using ROM-DOS's recommended CableNut settings. As for the DL speed test, a 326kb(I think) file gave me about 5.28kb/sec. First download test of the day: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 118 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 14 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Mon Feb 20 10:49:40 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 73.14 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 5.27 % of your hosts average (qwest.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-ELVDF2WMR
  8. Pages are fairly fast, although I sometimes get horrible speeds. Will check DL speed later.
  9. No accelerators, using IE because I reformatted the hard drive and haven't reinstalled Firefox. More detailed system specs below. Windows XP Home Edition SP1, Intel P4 2.4 GHz, 768 MB RAM What's odd is that the results are inconsistent. For instance, I just retested and got: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 71 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 9 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Sun Feb 19 19:07:55 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 1X faster than 56K 1MB download in 113.78 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 3.18 % of your hosts average (qwest.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8NVP6DCTL Speed ranges anywhere from 49 to 131Kbps. Uploads still stink: 22Kbps.
  10. Usually 50.6 kbps. Rarely anything higher.
  11. I'm pretty sure it isn't cached. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 131 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 16 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Sun Feb 19 15:55:25 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 64 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 5.86 % of your hosts average (qwest.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-159SCKVPI CableNut ROCKS!
  12. Holy cow your CableNut settings are good! Before using them, I got speeds of about 43 Kbps. Now, I get speeds between 57-60 Kbps! :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 60 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 7 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Tue Feb 14 14:00:05 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 1X faster than 56K 1MB download in 146.29 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 2.7 % of your hosts average (qwest.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-2GD0VB759 Awesome improvement! I appreciate your work very much.
