It's significant for dial-up. What makes IE so fast? @brock01: Not the DL speed, but the difference between 43-58kbps.

What extensions are you running on FF?  What toolbars do you have installed in IE?

FF: Fasterfox 1.0.3 & Yahoo! Toolbar

IE: No toolbars

I suppose this could account for the difference, but I really don't know.

Why is there such a wide gap between the speeds? Isn't FF supposed to be faster? The FF page speeds are infinitely better than IE's, but why is IE faster with downloads?

Usually 50.6kbps, occasionally lower or higher. What I really want to know is what causes the significant difference. It's weird, unless IE just has a burst speed while it tests. It takes longer to load the

'downloading data" page in IE than in Firefox.

Cholla, your link didn't really help because it says there's no estimate. Guess I'll have to call later. I will reply when 8.81MB download finishes.

EDIT: DL is done. 8.81MB file size, downloaded in 30 min 6 sec, averaging 4.5 to 5 kbps.

No double modems, not sure of the distance(what's a good site for this?), just using ROM-DOS's recommended CableNut settings. As for the DL speed test, a 326kb(I think) file gave me about 5.28kb/sec.

Pages are fairly fast, although I sometimes get horrible speeds. Will check DL speed later.

what browser are you using also make sure your not using any accelerators

No accelerators, using IE because I reformatted the hard drive and haven't reinstalled Firefox. More detailed system specs below.

Uploads still stink: 22Kbps.

What speed are you connecting at?

Holy cow your CableNut settings are good! Before using them, I got speeds of about 43 Kbps. Now, I get speeds between 57-60 Kbps!
