  1. Here are the results of the test: TCP options string = 020405ac01010402 MTU = 1492 MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput. MSS = 1452 MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising your MTU value. Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535 RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits Unscaled Receive Window = 65535 Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix. For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS. Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS: 511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4) 127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2) 63888 (MSS x 44) bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test): Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON Time to live left = 120 hops TTL value is ok. 3. Here is another test I ran: click START to begin Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 138.75Kb/s running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 717.21kb/s Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem Information: The receive buffer should be 237.42 Kbytes to maximize throughput
  4. Windows XP Home Verizon DSL Avast! virus protection SpyBot & Lavasoft & SpyBlaster CCleaner Here are my results with my DSL: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 714 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 87 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 13:41:22 GMT-0500 Bottom Line:: 13X faster than 56K 1MB download in 11.77 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 15.19 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9X7CBPVWS As you can see, I am running only at 15% of my host's average. I have downloaded Cablenut but I have no idea how to use it. Thanks
  5. I just installed Cablenut and tweaked my system according to FallowEarth's sticky and I increased my speed dramatically. I installed all the recommended software; ie spybot, lavasoft, CCleaner, Cablenut, Avast!. Also recommended was a firewall with the two suggested being those by Outpost and Sygate. I am not really sure what firewalls do. Could someone give me a quick rundown on them and on which one is a good one. Thanks
  6. I'm sorry, one more question. Do you have to tweak your system using Cablenut often to maintain high connection speeds? Or is once enough? Thanks
  7. I installed Cablenut and used the settings suggested by cdf216; namely this: * 10000_1000.ccs Here are the results: :.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 5986 Kbps about 6 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 731 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Jan 11 2006 21:03:55 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 107X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.4 sec Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 90.11 % of your hosts average (optonline.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-PIHBL5186 According to the latest test my speed is now 90% ( ! ) of my hosts average. This is up from 35%. Is that possible? And could it have been that easy? If it is, I don't know how to say thankyou enough. The rest of my info: spybot lavalsoft spyblaster Avast! Latest Windows Updates (auto updater) Connection via ethernet link (not USB) Windows 2000 professional CCleaner Evidence Eliminator Optonline cable provider w/ max download speed 10mps Last question: I don't really understand firewalls and I don't have one installed. What do they do and which one is better of the two suggested; Outpost or Sygate? Thanks again.
  8. Then how would I go about getting my connection to be so fast?
  9. Thankyou for the replies. I called my cable company and they said that 10mps is the max download speed but that most people wont get near that. The tech guy had me run a test and my system is downloading at 1mps. He said that was very fast. Is he right? If I tweaked it could it run faster? Should I try? Thanks again.
  10. My stats: ::..
