so NONE of the intel chips are good at all? that's what i keep hearing around technology forums and even from Cnet...
-
oh i use Verizon DSL...dunno how to find their main office though. oh and are there any more tweak settings i could try? I don't think any of the tweak settings in Van Buren's custom tweak settings apply to me cuz they include cable as well or do not have the right values. oh and if i have a friend who uses Verizon as well and he lives really close to me, then does that mean he can use the same tweak settings that would work for me and get the same results?

didn't do the cc cleaner or scan for spyware..that stuff never pops up. i dunno why. and yea i did that stuff with cablenut...it's just that now i'm not really sure which tweak setting i should use...i don't think it changes that much.
-
uh i just did the same trace route again with the file i dled from the sticky...I don't know what you mean by the loss at the same router though. And I don't know how to do the trace route test at any other site.

insideout, I see from the trace that there is a loss between the router (192) and the modem (10).

thanks Van Buren but i don't think they changed much = /. Any more tweak files I should try? i'm getting the same results over and over again: download hasn't gotten better but upload is good. I tried to tweak one of the files myself and made the default receive window 63888 and the default send window 98304. Should I make the numbers smaller or bigger and what effect does that have? oh and about the firewalls...does it inflate the dl results? i'm using norton and i'm not sure if that's why the results are inflated. I turned it off after but i'm just curious.
-
try this, some dsl connections have problems with large DefaultReceiveWindow
keep all settings as you have, just change DefaultReceiveWindow from 255552 to 63888
click save to registry and reboot your PC
Edit: if that dosent do the trick, try increasing it to 127776
VanBuren
thanks but is that specifically for upload or download? My upload is fine now but the download still hasn't gotten better. I'm going to try increasing it to 127776...maybe it'll increase my upload? cuz now testmy says it's only running at 41 percent (1970 Kbps) of the advertised speeds
-
alright i tried that tweak file you gave me. The upload is pretty good
:::.. Upload Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 565 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

Cable & DSL 1500 384.ccs
So should I use this one? it seems like it's the closest one.
-
635 Kbps (upload)
4733 Kbps (download)
here are the advertised speeds for verizon, according to testmy.net. i'm still confused about one thig: what's fiberoptic? and when they say cable_dsl tweak settings, does that mean it will work for cable or dsl?
-
try cablenut as suggested in the sticky
VanBuren
The reason I didn't was because I didn't know how to = /. I dled your tweak settings but how come there are so many? which ones do I use? Do I just run Cablenut and then open up your custom tweak file? if so, which one?
-
Hi I read the sticky and I just wanted some help with my connection so that it would go faster, like everyone else here. Here's all the info that Van Buren requested.
1. Windows XP
2. Verizon DSL.
3. just ran the testmy test.
TCP options string = 020405ac01010402
MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1452
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 121 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)
4. Here's the test from testmy.net
:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Download Speed is:: 274 kB/s

So can someone help me with this? As you can see i'm only at 66 percent of Verizon's average so any help would be appreciated = ).
-
You mean you can get different speeds of DSL?!?
-
cap? What're you referring to? Well thanks for all the help anyway Van Buren. You are cool
-
Uh how much is it suppose to increase my speed? Like 2 percent? I took the test again and I didn't do significantly better. It's 51 percent of AOL.com as opposed to 48 percent. And I did reboot the computer.
-
Oh got it. I saved the registry. Do the changes take a lot of time or are they instant? Let's hope it'll help boost my speed
-
Uh where's the separate attached file? There aren't any more links in your post besides the CableNut installation.
-
When I go to file and open custom settings file, it just says ADSL and when I click that it leads to ADSL fast 9k, ADSL fast 2k, ADSL normal 2k, ADSL 9k.
-
Uh where do I find that? Aren't all AOL DSL speeds around the same speed?
-
I don't know why but it goes pretty fast. It's like 60 kbs/secs. I heard it has spyware so can I remove that by just uninstalling the program or do I have to wipe out the memory?

I tried one or two of the tweak settings in the version 8 but i don't think it worked.
