I looked into everything, ran multiple virus scanners and all came back negative. I'm no computer noob. I have mcafee through comcast for free so no biggie and im not going on sites i shouldn't be. Although through all my efforts windows would not update. So i decided to do a fresh install and then after that windows updates works perfectly.

I did the sfc /scannow and it did nothing afterward. Also the scan of my computer using spybot produced nothing.

i see you have a rating in your sub scores higher than 5.9. Is that released in windows 7 where the rating is increased?

When i get back to the disc i will try the information you posted. As for my dvi connection both monitor and tv are hooked up in the same graphics card, through windows i have my main monitor dictated yet it still shows the boot screen via my other monitor that is disabled through windows.

Morning Everyone. I have two issues going on at the moment. I'm on an hp vista 32 bit laptop and every time windows comes up with an update i try to search and or install and it always fails. I checked the Microsoft website and what it told me to erase the software distribution folder and now i can not even search for any updates at all. Before i did that fold erase i would get an error code of 0x80070003. If anyone can offer some help on this topic that would be great. Another issue i have, i just purchased a new monitor for my desktop that has a dvi connection to my desktop, and then i have that computer setup as a dual monitor to a larger tv that is not always on. Can you view the bios via a dvi connection or does it have to be viewed via the regular connection? thanks in advance. -Alex

I received an 8bg iso containg files to boot onto my computer however my drive does not support a dual layer burner and i was wondering if there is any way to get into this iso and turn it into two consecutive bootable discs.

i have an hp and have been in contact with them all week, i asked for recovery discs on sunday and they just sent them out today and i wont get them until the 3rd or 4th. I wanted to have my laptop working before i go back to school next week. and if it is perfectly legal where exactly can i locate a bootable version of the os, windows vista sp 1 for a 32bit system? and yes emachines does charge, but my laptop that was damaged by the virus is an hp, a fairly new computer, dv5 1002 nr

i will try to locate the virus however i know i need to find a restore disc to reinstall vista as my recovery partition and the ability to connect to the internet is lost. i have not come across a website that has model specific disc sets. That grey area i understand and have been trying to work with, however i cant find the proper disc set to download and use to restore my computer, any further advice where to find?

MY computer recently got hit by a major virus ( not sure what it is) but i need to restore vista home premium and my recovery partition is no longer in existence and this is what hp told me to use to restore my computer. now i have a set of recovery discs on the way but i have been waiting for more than a month to receive them and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about a way to restore the recovery partition or reinstalling vista freely. ok i am confused since i am doin gtests after just cycling my modem and i am getting speeds of 8 megs and i originally had the 4 meg plan that was just uped to 6. so was the 6 just uped to 8?

yea hi i have a friend who is running the 6 meg package but cant get higher than 4.8 but he is on the modem dcm315. so i was wondering if ne1 could tell me how high those modems can handle speed wise. thank you

channging your dns server will only help your internet speeds minorly so dont bother unless your isp is having trouble.
