well i know i have a thread about cable but my parents are devorced and one has cable and the other one has dsl so anyway:
i did the large file test with our dsl and it got 218k, 27kb/s. that seems prutty slow. (it is qwest DSL by the way). i got the same thing on both our Pentium 4 and our apple G4 running os X. i am messing around with tcp optimizer but i doubt it will do much. does dsl get slower the further you are away from the dsl destributer place thing? i think it is your plain dsl, it is only $15/mo for unlimeted access but i thought it should still be faster then that. that wasnt even in the blue.

i am getting 30 kb/s download speed with my comcast cable! (according to the test on this site) we have a 802.11 b router which is what i am useing in the test. i am prutty sure it is not a software problem but i am going to find out by connecting my laptop directly into the cable modem. is it a possibility that becuase we have so many splitters on our cable for all the different tvs in our house that the signal could be dimmed down by that?
extremly slow cable????? help
