  1. Well, here is my update. I solved my problem by removing Vista and doing a clean install of Win XP. Once I got the drivers installed (that was painful) I got great speed without any tweaking yet. :::.. 2. It is built -in with a wireless antenna in the lid. However, I have a wireless card in my Win 98SE machine I could test in the Vista machine to see if is indeed a problem with the wireless unit in the Vista machine. I may convert to XP first anyway... Not happy with Vista's lack of campatibility with most of my programs, and the wireless problem to boot.
  3. Browser settings are as per Direcway's recommendations. I have tried both Mozilla and IE. I am mainly testing with IE. I tried TCP Optimizer. No improvement in speed test results. The speed is fine if wired to the router, but drops dramatically as soon as I disconnect the wire and go wireless. I tried wireless right next to the router, so I don't think it is a signal strength problem. My router is an enclosure out in the yard with my Direcway dish and modem. Wireless is fine with two other WinXP machines, and a Win98SE machine. I agree it could be a Vista setting. Web searches indicate leading causes of slow internet for Vista are anti-virus, poor signal strength, interacting firewalls, or wireless security. I have ruled out these as causes in my case. I even tried a quick test with my hardware firewall disabled - no improvement. I may have to resort to installing XP on this machine and running Vista in Virtual PC. But I could go through all of that pain and not correct the problem.
  4. Update: I tried to open my router admin page to turn off the router firewall. From my XP machine via wireless, I get to my router admin page at 192.168.1.1 with no problem. When I try with my Vista machine it times out and gives the error "Failure to Connect to Web Page". Maybe this is a clue?
  5. Fast Upload cabled/slow connection wireless 1. Windows Vista, new Thinkpad X60s, Linksys WRT54G, latest firmware for router and Wireless NIC. 2. I have to other machines served by the wireless router, and their speed is fine. They are both XP.
