  1. It took longer then I thought it would, about 3 hours.  However, the guy that did the install was very good and very knowledgeable.  I don't have a very complicated set up, just two TV's with few components.  The tech had to install something on the splitter in my attic and had to do some work outside with the ONT connection.  Other then that it was just a matter of getting the boxes up and running.

I have a fairly complex setup and 4 TV's 2 of which are HD. The new TV's are trying to compete with the av units for complexity. Anyway the installers could not get the picture up so I had to help them with that. I guess what surprised me the most is when one of them said S video cable gave the best picture in HD. I stuck close to them after that. I have 2 boxes tied into my router..a switch and a network interface module. I am very happy with the channel menu and the DVR's. Recorded the SB in HD..it played back great.

  2. Yes the inside and outside line plugs into the ONT and no they didn't have to rewire. My install team was not as good as the one that put the internet in. They left trash around and where they brought everything together in the attic they left the wiring and connector laying on the floor...not very professional. Most of the time was spent trying to get my Mitsubishi DLP and Panasonic plasma running. I eventually had to help them when I noticed the work came to a stop. In all fairness to them that portion of their job must be the most difficult. But when asked the question of why they were hooking up an S connection to the TV's...their response was that it gives you the best signal....... I told them to hook up the component cables.

They added 2 unexpected new components during the install....a D-Link VDSS-5+ ethernet switch and a Motorola network interface module which plug into your existing router. Make sure you have enough room for 2 more transformers at your power strip.

  3. I had mine installed on the 24th. I was prewired and it still took them over 3 hours. They left at 9PM. My installers were not too savvy on the components I had...that's what took so long. I had dishnetwork and the HD is much more stable with FIOS. I have 3 HDDVR's and 1 standard. The remote functioning is not quite as good as dishnetwork's but I'm happy with it so far.

  4. Halobox.....saw some Verizon installers at Lowes yesterday and they said FIOS TV is in Southlake. Called when I got home....it is. I've got install in 1 week. It'll be a pleasure to rid the house of Dishnet...their HD never met my expectations.

  5. The fact that it is the same price should be enough to move you to FIOS. It's true...for normal web surfing there will not be much difference but that's because the sites you are visiting cannot provide it to you as fast as you can receive it. I have not seen any bugs yet and I've had it for 2 months.

As far as the home security...I'm assuming your concerned about dialer issues....it will have no effect.  Sounds like you have some time to think about it anyway.

  6. Sorry to hear about that SOAHF....I'm still rocking along

  7. JohnnyValore....I had the exactly the same issue. The tech was nice enough to comp me the VDI-624... (he was 3hours late for the installation and felt bad about it). Others on this forum have had no problem with their original DI-624.

  8. They must have opened this end of Southlake...

  9. Fixme....Sounds like your getting closer. Try putting the antenna on the computer that you are getting the low speeds. Adjust its position with the software to obtain the optimum signal strength. I'm assuming when you say adapter you mean a pci card. Just unscrew the exsisting antenna and put the new one on. Place it as high as you can. 18Mbs sounds high for wireless try using the tests on this site. I think verizon kicks in a few Mbs to make you feel good.

  10. DigitalBoost...I have seen your other post and have no idea how all your hardware is configured..but it sounds to me you have way too many routers of different species connected together. One thing I have found out about Dlink is that they can be finicky when mixed with other equipment such as Linksys. Generally, if your connecting 2 routers together via hardwire you need to do it with a crossover cable not the straight thru cable. They also need to connected thru the LAN ports not the WAN. If your connecting a wireless router to another wireless router or access point wirelessly then you are using them as a repeater. I dont recommend that as the bandwidth is appreciably diminished. With 15Mbs speeds on FIOS all of your "in the loop" hardware have to be optimized. Mixing B with G may be reducing your speeds more than half as you suggested. I have all extreme G Dlink hardware capable of 108Mbs. My laptop has a DWL-G650 card and my desktop has a DWL-G520 PCI adapter. The desktop is enclosed in a cabinet upstairs and has 3 walls between it and the DI-624 router. I added a directional extender anntena to it and can now get 13Mbs speeds.

I'd sugeest you take the Dlink router out of the system and try everything with your Linksys hardware...get Linksys on the phone to help you out. If you can't get it all up the way you want it then trash the Linksys and go Dlink with all of it. Their support people will help you make the harware selection. I would also try to use directional antennas where you are using routers to extend range. They provide more strength than the omni-directional ones.

  11. An access point when connected to the DI-624 may improve your signal strength and quality on your wireless but when used as a repeater  it will reduce your bandwidth by up to half...which it sounds like it's doing. I'd return it and get one of the directional antennas.....you won't lose bandwidth that way. I went through the same process....ending up returning the AP and buying the DWL-M60AT. My signal strength went from 40 to 68 and I get 13Mbs download on both wireless computers.

  12. No have not added anything. Just ran another test with a cleared cache

I'm not quite sure of the reliability of the test site with FIOS.

  15. No way of me knowing....the orange conduit used on my block for FIOS was no more than 4" OD. I'm not an installer so I don't know if they use orange conduit for anything other than FIOS. You should have flagged them down and asked them.

  16. Not good .s1......8.4Mbs. But I don't do well with any of the mirrors. Must be many legs to get there and back all of which could choke bandwidth. The larger the file, and most direct route to the server should produce the most reliable assessment of your download capability. By all rights a 20MB download should not exert FIO's 15/2 in the least.
