Hey cholla, I thought that particular test wasn't applicable to Direcway users. Anyway, I have done some extensive testing with my connection and an MTU of 1500, MSS of 1460 have shown to produce much better SpeeDs, at least for me. The correct RWIN can also help out quite a bit. Thing about Direcway is, everyone's system is a little different. 256960 works very well although I haven't used that value for awhile.

After reading much more I' learned the DW 6000 can not be tune very much and the software DW offers should be installed but at present I can not regester for MYDirecWay

to download the program and setup my E=mail. A eng. from DW will call me in about 5-7 days. Ha Ha.

Hate to see ya have these kinds of problems. The software I believe your talking about is the LCCU. This utility did help my connection when I used a DW6000. As far as waiting 5 to 7 days for DW to call, that's B.S. Call them and tell them to prorate your bill until they feel like calling you! I guarantee they'll call right away. When money's involved, people listen, usually lol! Good Luck,

So does that mean they are just giving me speed untill my month is over or whats the deal?? I usally see around 1200Kbps and the actual download speed varies. Cant hold a good download speed when downloading files.

Direcway believe it or not does try to fine tune your connection, when discussing the DW6000. That means the NOC optimizes your DW6000 in a manner they believe will give you the best possible connection.

Wow! I certainly hope you backed everything up first. From my experience, an MTU of 1500 is what should be used with the DW6000. I also see you changed your TCP receive/send window from 1460 to 1500? No wonder your SpeeD is suffering. Do yourself a favor and go back to the original settings and get everything back the way it was. I would make sure IE is running as well as possible before delving into FF. Also, be advised with new DW6000's, it can take as long as a month before NOC can (supposedly) fine tune your DW6000. When playing around with any kind of tweaks and optimizers, be careful. Yes, they work well, but make sure to read and educate yourself prior to using them. A finely tuned DW6000 should net you SpeeDs from 850 Kbps to 1050 Kbps. Some folks around here have hit 1300 Kbps.

Your story sounds very familiar. I upgraded to DW6000 on June 12 and my downloads speeds are significantly lower than the DW4000. Prior speed range was 600 to 1700 with the DW4000. Now during peak hours I run under 200, sometimes below 100. I have tried to return the DW6000 and reactivate the DW4000, but DWay isn't cooperating. I am now stuck with an inferior system and on the hook for 15 mos. What an "upgrade"! I have spent hours on the phone as well, with no help. Today, I received an e-mail stating an engineer would call, I won't wait by the phone. I am running through one of the Mex satellites, not sure which one. I can feel your pain. If I find any soulution, I'll post here. I think what's happening here is the DW6000 software is external to the computer and you can't tweak it. With the DW4000, the software resides on your computer and you can tweak it to increase performance. I think Dway is offering the DW6000 upgrade to get the DW4000's off line. I could be wrong, I'm no expert.

Correct. The so called "upgrade" to a DW6000 is actually a down grade. You pay the same and Direcway has far more control of your SpeeD. What do they do with the additional bandwidth savings? Sell it. Kind of like a two for one. As soon as my contract was up with the DW6000, I reverted back to the DW4000. The DW6000 is capped at aroung 1 meg. So, if your runn'in SpeeDs around 980 to 1050 Kbps, that's outstanding for a DW6000.

Above is typical performance from my DW6000 from about 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM on weeknights. I have been trying for over a month to get Di recway to give me some help. I have spent several hours on the phone with India and with "Tier 3." I have sent about a dozen e-mails. I have been told that my antenna need re-aiming ("SS", above is Signal Strength), but no one came. I have been told that an engineer would call, but he never did. I have threatened to cancel my service and demand a refund, but the threat was ignored.

I am on satellite AMC9. It seems clear to me that the satellite is overloaded during peak traffic hours.

I would like to hear from anyone with similar problems - particularly if you are on AMC9.

I'm not familiar with AMC9. I run on SatMex 5 and last night was pitiful. SpeeDs (at least for me) were horrendous. During prime-time Direcway tends to get overloaded. However, once traffic dies down, bandwidth becomes available. Seeing your SpeeD was less then 200 Kbps, Direcway should be making any and every attempt possible to help you. Unfortunately it doesn't always work like that. A signal of 60 should not affect your SpeeD. Sometimes a different transponder can really help out. Did Direcway try that?
