If you're using a web filter, like privoxy, you'll end up with bogus test results. I wish I was getting 3.4MB off my 1.5MB line! From what I can determine when privoxy is running the test seems like it's hanging for around 5 seconds then the test starts. The progress bar shoots up to 70% almost instantly (pre-loading?) then starts to act like the regular speed test. So with only 30% of the test remaining the clock begins to tick giving the bogus results.
Upload wasn't affected as much, around a 100k faster with privoxy running. The upload test at this site was slower then what I normal get (around 720k) at other speed sites. I test both Firefox and IE with similar results.
