bleau101 Posted January 26, 2006 CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 I know this is a stupid question, but I have a .98 meter dish with 2 watt tx, bought it used very cheap. It say not to touch because of the special coating, it looks dull. Can I wah it, if so just car wash soap. Or can I paint it?
Bird Fan Posted January 26, 2006 CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 I don't see why it would be bad to wash it... I've washed it before with "Simple Green" and mine still works fine.
bleau101 Posted January 26, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 Thanks, they seemed to make a big deal about not touching the dish.
Bird Fan Posted January 26, 2006 CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 Thanks, they seemed to make a big deal about not touching the dish. Just make sure you unplug the modem before you do anything to it.
fikester Posted January 26, 2006 CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 I use rainx myself.....for a clean water shedding surface, rain seems to affect the signal more than snow piling up.

JimPrice Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 Your dish is probably an SP dish. Look for the SP logo on it. If you see that, don't wash the dish. It's been coated with a hydrophobic surface treatment that sheds water like a sonofabitch. If you wash it with any detergent, it will come off. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to kill the dish, but without the HP coating, it will not hold a signal quite as well as it would if you had left it alone. Not a lot of SP idshes out there, and I love mine. It's a 1.2m dish, and rain and snow absolutely fall off of it with no help from me. bleau101 Posted January 27, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 Thanks Jim there is an sp logo on it. I did have .74 meter my signal went from 62 to 87 and a rate code of 356 2/3. So just live with the slight dullness ...darn. Still like the results.

JimPrice Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 Yeah, I left a .74 for my 1.2, and went from an rsl of 60-64 to 90-95. Live with the dullness, that's the way it's suposed to look, actually.
