carlo0423 Posted January 30, 2006 CID Share Posted January 30, 2006 Hi, I'm new here and I really need help improving my internet connection. I'm on DSL and the speed is 384 Download and 128 Upload. I live in overseas (Philippines) and Broadband connection is very poor plus Cable Internet is too expensive. Anyway, I downloaded CableNut and tried to find a setting for my Internet connection. Unfortunately, It only has 256 and 512 settings. Can anyone help me on this? Is there any alternative setting that I can use? Thanks! trogers Posted January 30, 2006 CID Share Posted January 30, 2006 Hi, Please read this thread, carry out some speed tests in some websites of your ISP or your country and note the results. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=11494.0 Download and install the Cablenut program from www.cablenut.com. Open my ccs file in the above thread with the Cablenut program, save to registry and reboot your comp. Do your speed tests again to compare. trogers Posted January 31, 2006 CID Share Posted January 31, 2006 No, I am based in Bangkok. But I have tried to test at your link and got a worse result - 24 Kbps...and my bandwidth is 1024/512 Kbps...LOL I suspect your ISP is very over subscribed - selling lines to too many people and not increasing their capacity. So each of you get a smaller and smaller bandwidth. To check the throughput your ISP assign to you, carry out this network diagnostic test: http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ Useful info is reported in the "Statistics" section and the last 2 paragraphs of "More Details" section. Post the results and I can comment on them.

trogers Posted January 31, 2006 CID Share Posted January 31, 2006 When I do a trace route to your test site, I was not able to reach it. The furtherest I can get to is Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. What is surprising is that I had to connect to Japan before getting to the Phillipines. The latency is horrible - max 748 ms. This means your country has only one international gateway provider, a government monopoly (like in Thailand) and all ISPs have to connect through it, resulting in a huge traffic jam, and thus very high latency.
