Latency problem

Trogers was helping me with slow DSL speeds and he suggested I post here for additional help. He stated

"1. modem/router configuration - timed out in your trace route between 1st and 2nd paths and this causes high latency (ave 520 ms). If you are in USA, ave latency should not exceed 100 ms". I am in the USA and my modem is a Speedstream 5220. Is there any way to correct this?

alright could you post a tracert to see what we are dealing with?

This isnt 100% true.. some of the newer router will disregard pings to the wan port but still allow the tracert to go through..

It is very possible for a hop to be over 100ms..

I am on an 17000/1500 connection.. 100+ ms possible.

Third thing.. thePlanet.com, the host of this website, has been doing maintaince to their network for most of last week and some of this week.  This could explain some of the high ping times as traffic is having to be moved from one router to another causing excess traffic.
