thirdwiseman Posted February 4, 2006 CID Share Posted February 4, 2006 I built a new computer and now my download is slower. Same usb wirless adapter. My upload is higher than the avg. verizon user. If i connect the same computer directly to the router then my download connection is back up to 5.2 Mbps. What could be wrong? Please help! I can take the wireless adapter to another pc and get better results. Have replaced the mb in this pc. This is a fresh install of XP pro with sp1a. :::.. Swimmer Posted February 4, 2006 CID Share Posted February 4, 2006 try using cablenut to get the close to the same wired speeds.. Since it is wireless you are not going to get close to the -same speeds as wired due to the fact that it uses a radio.. However, you can get about 85-90% of wired speed on a wireless connection.. thirdwiseman Posted February 4, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 4, 2006 Get this I manually changed the DNS server under TCP/IP and raised the speed to 4.3Mbps. I don't remember where I got the numbers for the DNS server as I wasn't sure what numbers to use. I got them off the INTERNET somewhere. But I did not know that I would not get speeds as fast as wired. I still thought that the Internet connection was the bottleneck and that my wireless connection was still fast enough to be at top connection speed. Thanks, I will look into your advise. coknuck Posted February 6, 2006 CID Share Posted February 6, 2006 i'mrikk19692003, You have suscom for $39.99 a month. That is a 5Mbps x 256Kbps package so your speed is a cached test. Turn off excelerators and don't use back button.
