embillma Posted March 9, 2006 CID Share Posted March 9, 2006 Noted 18 May 2005 thread on this Subject. At 04:44 it was recommended that an older version of the Argonne Labs test be used. It works! With broadband provider advertising 5MB downloads I was charting 4.9+MB consistently. Provider recently went to 7MB download but my tester was recording only 5.02/3 with "possible duplex mismatch". Taking advice from the 2005 post my connection showed 6.96/8 and then using tester this site see the following: Old ANL tester was v5.3. Now using v5.2 with satisfactory results. Can anyone explain the reason newer version causes the low 5MB range, but the old version will consistently yield 6.9+? Thanks from new "non-tech" member. :::.. embillma Posted March 9, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 9, 2006 As follow-up ran 3 speed tests between 12:01 and 12:06 PM with unsatisfactory results of: Speakeasy - 4818 kbps Megapath - 4586 Linkline - 3097 At 12:16 ran the Argonne test (v.5.2) with results - 6.47MB Other than some 'network congestion' no problems cited. Are there explanations for such radical variations?
