lorne Posted January 9, 2004 CID Share Posted January 9, 2004 Steve I would go to speedguide: https://www.speedguide.net/ Go to the tcp:optimizer which is under broadband, read the faq, then download the optimizer. To find your optimal RWIN use the DSLnuts calculator: http://www.dslnuts.com/bitsbytes.shtml You can use this test to determine how your tweeks are working: http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks Don't forget to back up your registry. Everybodys connection is different, you might hit the right RWIN number right away, or like me it might take 10 or 12 hours of tweeking to get the right settings, but either way it is worth it. GOOD LUCK Let me know how it goes

lorne Posted January 12, 2004 CID Share Posted January 12, 2004 Steve have you checked for spy ware, cause that will rob you of a lot of bandwidth, one program isn't usually enough. I would suggest the following 3 they work well together. http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/ http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

lorne Posted January 15, 2004 CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 Steve Thats cool that you have better speeds now, your pretty close to where you should be. 80-90% of your advertised is good. But if you want to see if you can get some more out of it, let me know exactly what tweeks you have done. Then I will see if I know some more. lorne Posted January 15, 2004 CID Share Posted January 15, 2004 Steve PPPoE is ( Point to point Protocol over Ethernet ) PPPoA is ( Point to Point Protocol over ATM ) ATM is ( Asynchronous Transfer mode ) If you are using PPoE your max MTU should be 1492 I don't know about PPPoA The best way to find out what your max mtu should be is to phone your ISP. Also do one of these tests and post the results link, that will help figure out if there is anything else we can do to speed you up Oh and what is your os http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks
