SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- Google Inc.'s bid to blanket San Francisco with a free wireless Internet service cleared a major hurdle Wednesday when a city panel identified the search leader and EarthLink Inc. as the best candidates for the ambitious project.

Correct me if I am wrong. So they are going to give 4 x faster than dialup internet access, for $20 a month? Sounds pretty alright. It would help out lower incomers.  :D

Just noticed the same thing happened with mine.

Using the same IEEE 802.11g network, Earthlink would provide a subscription-based service with throughput of about 1M bps (bits per second) while Google would offer a free service at about 300K bps,
