gud2u2 Posted April 24, 2006 CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 Help....please..I just got VOIP from MCI. My ISP is Cox. I used to connect at 4.1mps. Now it connects at around 700kps. My upload is almost as fast as my download. I called both MCI and Cox. Cox told me that there was a 15% loss and someone would come out sometime thursday. MCI said that with a max pause greater than 150ms they couldn't help with (my is somewhere between 250 and 1800). I just did a reformat Windows ME and the only thing I added was Dr.TCP (to raise my Tcp Receive Window to 50000). I am not even running my firewall right now. Below are the results from the download and upload on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :::.. VanBuren Posted April 24, 2006 CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 have you changed duplex settings in your NIC? If so try to force it to 10 Mbps half duplex, if you have a router, try both 100 Mbps full duplex and Auto VanBuren

VanBuren Posted April 24, 2006 CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 try change the settings quote from http://dslnuts.com/tips_tricks.shtml HOW TO SET THE PROPER NIC DUPLEX SETTINGS: Win98/ME: to change to half-duplex: * Open Control Panel. * Double-click Network. * From the scrollable list, select your Ethernet adapter (rather than any dial-up) with a green icon. * Click the button Properties. * Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front: * In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT. * In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or ( at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI. * Click OK to exit the Adapter settings. * Click OK all the way out - you might need to restart. gud2u2 Posted April 24, 2006 Author CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 Its on auto. I changed it to 10baseT (it was the only option I had that you listed). It actually made it worse (128kbs down). Is there a way to test my modem? I am also having troubles with active x. I went to the PCpitstop website and tried to test the active x and it told me it wasn't supported (using IE 6). I have checked everything in the internet options. Thanks
FiberOptic Posted April 24, 2006 CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 also make sure you clear the cache after applying any new settings and reboot to get the new effect as if you re-do the test over it will be cached aka FAKED

FallowEarth Posted April 25, 2006 CID Share Posted April 25, 2006 Looks like this test went ok: TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3d click START to begin Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If you are running IE, try disabling your toolbars. Click View --> Toolbars. In here, all you need is Address Bar, Standard Buttons and Links. Click to uncheck (disable) any others. If you are running FF, click Tools --> Extensions. Here you should be able to right click and disable the extensions. You'll have to reopen the browser after. Then retest (use the one without a loader bar): http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?ni=1&tt=1&s=2992&st=st&ta=&top=&nobar=1
If this doesn't work, try this online malware scan: http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan
An alternative you have is to try the ftp download test laid out here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12193
