Daiquirii Posted July 25, 2006 CID Share Posted July 25, 2006 Well, to start with, Hello! I'm happy to find a place that is helpful with all my computer problems. I just got this great new notebook for my first year in college and decided to test out the wireless internet (anythings better than the dial-up I would have otherwise). Now the problem...I am using a public wireless connection. This network is available for about a one mile radius from its source. My home is on the edge of the reception area, so I rarely get a signal thats more than 1 bar. This is a screenshot with the normal specs. When I run tests I get results like this :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 620 Kbps about 0.62 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 76 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/07/25 - 10:40am Bottom Line:: 11X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 13.47 sec Tested from a 579 kB file and took 7.657 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 27.65 % of your hosts average (snet.net) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-NY1SUBGD6 User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 [!] Is it normal to expect results like this since my signals so weak? This is after I used all the guides here to optimize my connection (before i was running slower than dial-up, thats why I came here in the first place.) Thank you for any help

Daiquirii Posted July 25, 2006 Author CID Share Posted July 25, 2006 tested with ie, scores are about the same for the best run (my comp keeps switching from 0 to 1 bars, so I figure this is the constant connection rate) ::::::::::..
