dlewis23 Posted August 7, 2006 CID Share Posted August 7, 2006 ShadowX19 you need to get your modem switched from interleaved to fast data path. just call your ISP and tell them to switch it for you.
ShadowX19 Posted August 7, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 7, 2006 After reading some of this: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14674058 I don't know if it's going to be worth the time and is there side effects? ShadowX19 Posted August 7, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 7, 2006 Talked to Embarq They said it's always been on Interleaved even when I had 1.5... Now even worse my connection speed has dropped from 3.0 to under 1.5 mbps, I don't know what's going on but it has been fine until now. dlewis23 Posted August 7, 2006 CID Share Posted August 7, 2006 Is Fast Path or Interleaved better? Pros and Cons? you want fast path, interleaved does packet analsys, it looks it everything to make sure there are no errors but it slows down your internet because it takes time to look at the packets. fast path doesnt look at anything it just passes it throught he dslam and your ping times will probally be cut in 1/2 if not more. Talked to Embarq They said it's always been on Interleaved even when I had 1.5... Now even worse my connection speed has dropped from 3.0 to under 1.5 mbps, I don't know what's going on but it has been fine until now. tell them to switch you to fast path. are you sure they did not switch you back to 1.5. ShadowX19 Posted August 7, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 7, 2006 No, because that's actually why I called them this morning because the speeds dropped... There having a technician come out on the 9th maybe they will do it.

ShadowX19 Posted August 8, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 8, 2006 Why whats like that? the interleave/fast path? or the speeds? because I have had great speeds until early today...I am about 600 yards from the CO.
Blunted 2 Posted August 8, 2006 CID Share Posted August 8, 2006 i have a zyxel 645 dsl modem on fast path and my pings are below but my pings on interleave would jump by around 20 ms on each hop and i would see a speed decrease from about 5000-5200 to around 3500 and thats the difference with my isp but you might see something a bit different with yours. also my line used to be 5600 feet but the phone company put a coil on the line making it over 10,000 feet and on interleave the pings would be close your pings so see if they will take off interleave. ShadowX19 Posted August 10, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 10, 2006 Well early on the 9th the speeds came back and now are steady, so I talked to Embarq and canceled the tech coming, who knows why the speeds were so crappy for those 2-3 days, first time its ever did that... Then I asked about Interleave/Fast Path again, this is what they said: Me: there is one other thing I would like the data path changed from interleave to fast path is that possible? Embarq: I apologize, we do not change interleave paths. The latency is set at interleaved for specific reasons. Me: then why did my ping go up when I switched from 1.5 to 3.0 Mbps? Embarq: It works much like a stereo, as you turn up the volume, any distortion is turned up as well. As the speed is turned up, any imperfections on the line are amplified as well. Me: what are the reasons the path can't be changed? Embarq: Primarily if errors are building on the line, we need to know about it, not discard the errors. ShadowX19 Posted September 24, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 24, 2006 Well I was talking to Embarq again about my ping and I was doing tracert's and ping's and all the sudden I was getting 27 ping to Chicago and my upload was bumped up to 768 Kbps, so I asked if they changed the path and they said they didnt do anything, then I asked if it was going to cost me any money and they said no ... obviously they bumped up my upload and that helped so I am happy.
