MAC filtering

I want to set up my router to only allow the 2 computers I have. Both are wireless and I was reading the info here for using MAC filtering: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=759&p_created=1084220985&p_sid=yE_7HWfi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=2088&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTU0JnBfcHJvZHM9MSwyMCwzMjgmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTMuMzI4JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9zY2ZfbGFuZz0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9d2lyZWxlc3MgbWFjIGZpbHRlcmluZw**&p_li=&p_topview=1

My question is, do I HAVE to have one hard wired in order to do this? My laptop is the only option for that but if I do hard wire it, how do I get the router to recognize its MAC address when I try to use the wireless feature? I have the WRT54G router, BTW. They say it's best to do the setup from a PC that's hardwired, but they don't say it's mandatory. Can it be done form a wireless laptop?

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

yes.. it can be done with wireless.. the reason that it is not stated pretty much is because it is really easy to spoof a wireless MAC address.  So you are going to also want to add encryption on top of that MAC filter..

It is going to be the same as adding a wired client.. Most of the time the router will put all of the MAC addresses into the DHCP list.. so you can go there and find it.  If it is not there you can run an ipconfig /all and get the address there also.  Just enter it and you should be set.
