TimPawlak Posted June 4, 2007 CID Share Posted June 4, 2007 I am trying to install windows 98 SE on my laptop ( it was vista, and i didnt want xp so for fun im using 98 ) and i made a bootdisk and ram fdisk and stuff.. try everything and it keeps comming up with an error "Windows requires xxxxxxxx bytes of space on C:/" its a 40 gig and no matter what i try it still does it
Swimmer Posted June 4, 2007 CID Share Posted June 4, 2007 Sounds like fdisk didnt run right. Vista is NTFS... 98 requires FAT32. I would re-run fdisk again and make sure that you are doing it correctly.

qbeam Posted June 4, 2007 CID Share Posted June 4, 2007 it will be active by default. be sure your floppy disk you booted off of has the CD drivers on it. Copy the windows directory from the Win 98 CD over to C:windowscabs. make 2 directories. the first one should be windows and make another one inside that called cabs so you should be in c:windowscabs copy the Windows 98 disk to that c:windowscabs folder and type setup from the C drive. your install will simply fly by and since you installed from the C drive you don't need to bring your Windows 98 cd with you if you ever need it. Good luck Qbeam

resopalrabotnick Posted June 4, 2007 CID Share Posted June 4, 2007 nothing wrong with using 98 se. it runs, it's resource friendly and especially on a notebook it's a good solution if all the progs you want to run run on 98.
