keith1178 Posted June 13, 2007 CID Share Posted June 13, 2007 Just wondering if it is possible to set up a home network with a pc running xp and a laptop running vista. I really only need to be able to print from my laptop. I have tried and it is not working. Maybe doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Do you have one? Then you just need to share the printer on the desktop, to be able to print from the laptop.
Swimmer Posted June 13, 2007 CID Share Posted June 13, 2007 Like DLewis said router is the best way to go.. if you have 2 NIC cards in one of the computers it is possible to use one of the computer as a router.. but it a lot more complicated. keith1178 Posted June 13, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 13, 2007 I have a linksys wrt54g router and I went to the control panel and clicked on the printer and enabled sharing but when I used my laptop to search for available printers none were found
Swimmer Posted June 13, 2007 CID Share Posted June 13, 2007 Open IE and type IP address of other computer. That should bring up the shares that you have setup. To get the IP address of the other computer: Start | Run type cmd press enter | type ipconfig /all.. Look for IP Address...
