VivaLaEric Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 How well of a connection do you need to have your Xbox LIVE Halo 2 latency bar to be completely full to green? I hate having lag in Halo 2, so I usually play LIVE at late night when there is more bandwidth to use. I am on DSL with a connection of 512kbs download/ and upload around 100kbs? (yes i know, crap) This is the best i can get where i live. Anyways... my stats have been; :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 725 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 88 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Sat Jan 29 16:03:19 MST 2005 Bottom Line:: 13X faster than 56K 1MB download in 11.64 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-Q5MJORZ4A :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 108 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Upload Speed is:: 13 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Sat Jan 29 16:08:17 MST 2005 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 78.77 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-OBQICZ1DF and at obscenely late hours it has been download; 1.2mbs upload; 0.2mbs so yes most of the time i am always getting a little more than what supposively i am paying for. ANYWAYS. . . OF ANYWAYS. . . Can someone answer my question, "How well of a connection do you need to have your Xbox LIVE Halo 2 latency bar to be completely full to green?" VanBuren Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 hey VivaLaEric and welcome to the forum what speed do Xbox use while playing? if it use close to your cap, your ping will go sky high VanBuren
VivaLaEric Posted January 29, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 yes hello VanBuren, can you give me that answer again in english? in laymen terms. not to be ungrateful or anything. you see I did not understand that very well
VanBuren Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 ill give it a shot when you using XBOX online, it take some bandwidth, how much bandwidth? your bandwidth is limited by your Internet Service Provider If Xbox using almost all your bandwidth upstream, or downstream, then i guess your Green bars will go red beqause your latency increase. Swimmer Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 If i remember correctly you need 512/128 connection for the service to work like planned.. so you are a little blow the specs.. in the upload catigory.. and with the network traffic I would say that you are running a little slow in the download section also.. You are also playing a game that is extremely hot so the servers are running fairly full and have some lag on them to begin with.. To have green my guess would be a basic 3.0/256 connection or faster...
VivaLaEric Posted January 29, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 swimmer, I don't think that you would need a 3.0/256 connection to have full bars green, because I have had full bars at green but not usually so maybe arround 0.75-1.0/150-200? VanBuren Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 if its hooked up to one of your pc, go here and download a bandwidth monitor program http://www.download.com/sort/3120-2001_4-0-1-3.html?qt=bandwidth+monitor&ca=2001 or read what kinda bandwidth the game need from the manufactors specifications VanBuren
Swimmer Posted January 29, 2005 CID Share Posted January 29, 2005 I know that here on our 10Mb/5mb connection here we still hit lag... now that might because some dude is downloading some movie and the bandwidth drops.. It really depends on the network load and condition on the server that Microsoft is runnning, by the way I think they run linux or that is what I have been told.. gotmilk Posted June 27, 2005 CID Share Posted June 27, 2005 Microsoft doesn't run the servers, at the beginning of the game, the person with the upload is picked to be the host, and if the host quits, the games pauses for a second, then chooses the person with the next best upload to be host. So it could also have to do with how good of a connection the host has and how far you are away from him, not just your connection. So if the host's connection isn't very good, that may be another reason you're in the red or yellow.

KingCobra Posted June 28, 2005 CID Share Posted June 28, 2005 Microsoft doesn't run the servers... The servers are used for authentication, matchmaking, game stat storage, post game summaries, bungie.net reporting, etc.
