Konog Posted February 1, 2005 CID Share Posted February 1, 2005 Konog here I stumbled onto your site looking for solutions to my cable modem which slowed down inexplicability. I first noticed a slow down while downloading files from email and then while playing online games with horrific lag. I read through some "pre-post" tips and downloaded CableNut and SpyBot. I ran SpyBot & SpySweeper and found nothing unusual and CableNut didnt make any sense, not yet anyway. I ran the Download test and got results similiar to todays test: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 676 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 83 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Mon Jan 31 20:29:50 EST 2005 Bottom Line:: 12X faster than 56K 1MB download in 12.34 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-ZM5Q0926J :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 184 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 97 KB) Upload Speed is:: 22 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Mon Jan 31 20:35:34 EST 2005 Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 46.55 sec Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/id-DY5WONXV9 Then I powered down my modem and rebooted and reran the Download test and WOW!!! I was off the charts at 7.1Mbps ( I wish I copied the results) I logged back in and everyting was great, for a while, then I noticed a slow down and reran the Download test and I was back to 0.7 Mbps. I tried powering down again but had no luck. I run: Dell 4600 Win XP Pentium 4 2.40 Ghz 1 GB RAM No Firewall Help!!!

MICROWAVE Posted February 1, 2005 CID Share Posted February 1, 2005 Yeah I have a paid McAfee latestest version that I removed because it slowed down my connection a lot, my speeds increased over 1000 Kbps after I removed Mac (tech support was no help, but it was free..L0L)keep the McAfee if you want but get the firewall and adAware and run everything and in the meantime I will post a link to the place you can start. Also after you down load these things if I may suggest disconnect from the internet(unplug) until after all is installed and run also do a complete virus scan.......... MICROWAVE Posted February 1, 2005 CID Share Posted February 1, 2005 OK but ya gotta run again along with the other things so we can make sure that we are not fighting against a virus or any other malware or trojan etc, ets, I know its a hassle but we must have a known clean slate to start otherwise we will not have the sucess we want.... thanks Microwave
