cmptrguy99 Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 Hi All, I am new to this forum, but have puzzling problem. I can ping testmy.net with the following info: Pinging testmy.net [67.19.36.6] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=53 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=53 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=53 Reply from 67.19.36.6: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=53 Ping statistics for 67.19.36.6: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 12ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 15ms But I can not seem to get a tracert. Times out at same hop. does anyone know what hop this is. I am running Comcast cable in the Dallas, TX area. Swimmer Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 are you running a software firewall??? I would be really suprised if Comcast disabled the tracert function.. I know that PC-cillin disables the tracert function.. most of the firewalls do.. try that and see if solves the problem.. Are you on a router of any type? By the way.. Welcome to the forum!! cholla Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 hi cmptrguy99:You can use this site to do a trace until you figure out your problem http://www.network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=trace&Netnic=whois.arin.net&host=64.185.4.46 Try this & see if you get packet fragmenting: ping testmy.net -f-l 1460 The l is a small L. Post the results if you want to. Cholla
Swimmer Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 that site he posted would work.. make sure that you didnt disable the tracert stuff in zone alarm.. try turning off the zonealarm.. and then it should work..
cholla Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 Hi Swimmer: I just put the site in for a temporary solution.Incase he wanted to do a trace before he got his os working like he wants it to. Cholla
cmptrguy99 Posted February 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 I have tried turning off Zonealarm, allowing tracert, ICMP, and even running directly from my cable modem. I guess now I am trying to firgure out wherre the 10. address is coming from.
Swimmer Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 that is a really good question.. umm i will see if I can figure that out.. Cholla I have never seen something like that! That is a great find!! Ok a few more questions: 1) Have you power cycled your modem? 2) Have you contacted Comcast about this problem? 3) is more than one computer having this problem? I would also like you to pm me with the security level that you are running for zone alarm.. Depending on what level you are running ICMP is block/out going only/ or allowed to function.. cmptrguy99 Posted February 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 Another wrinkle ... When I try to tradert anywhere, but my router the first hop 10.180.0.1, but if I tracert my router it finds it right away. also when i try to tracert to my second PC going through router I can not find it, but I can tracert myself. this is becoming really puzzling. Swimmer Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 ok try pathping testmy.net type it exactly like that.. also is your ip address of your router 192.168.0.xxx?? or is it 10.what ever? If you would like I am currently on aim this might help speed up the process of fixing this problem
cmptrguy99 Posted February 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 The ip of my router is 192.168.1.1. I think it has something to do with NAT. when i turn it off the first hop is to my router, but still timesout after that. Sorry don't have aim. Swimmer Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 all that Nat does is "lock" ports that are not used by programs.. so if you dont have any port forward it pretty much stealths them.. Hmm.. I would give Comcast a call.. How long have you had you internet? I am wondering if you are still on the registeration server.. Give them a call and let them know what is going on.. If I have time this weekend I will try and replicate you situtation. I have a Dlink router.. So it should act the same for the most part.. cmptrguy99 Posted February 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 I downloaded NeoTrace and it will tracert all hops to testmy.net Even past the 10. address. I will call comcast to see what they say.
