voucher2002 0 Posted August 9, 2009 CID Report Share Posted August 9, 2009 I have two computers connected to the same router. One is running Vista and has a download/upload speed (Verison Fios) of 19.2/4.4 Mbps. The other machine is old, running XP and has a speed of only 10.2/4.4. Can anyone help me find the problem. The old machine now has a new driver for the ethernet card and a virus scan shows that it is clean. I swapped cable and changed location on the router to no avail. Please help. Thanks. coknuck 146 Posted August 9, 2009 CID Report Share Posted August 9, 2009 How old is the older computer? What are the specs.
RTB 25 Posted August 10, 2009 CID Report Share Posted August 10, 2009 If I had to guess it would be the tcp settings on the XP box, as the default values simply weren't set for broadband as we know it now (unless you're in rural america, australia, or any other place where broadband is very broadly defined). Running XP with service pack 3 BroadCom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet with latest(new installed, didn't help) driver. Speed and Duplex set to "Auto".
voucher2002 0 Posted August 12, 2009 Author CID Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks for your suggestion....I just ran the TCP optimizer and it solved the speed problem.
