rlh24 Posted March 13, 2005 CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 I no longer have the option to turn off or restart my computer from the option that used to be in the lower left corner after logging off of windows. Is there a fix to this issue?

rlh24 Posted March 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 Is there no other option? Can this not possibly be repaired?
Aggr3 Posted March 13, 2005 CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 If you put your windows disk in it will give an option to reinstall....that won't erase an data....you don't need to reformat or anything.....my 10 yr old did it two days ago on a diffrent computer...took him 4-5 min...it's really quite simple.. And I'm not trying to imply anything with the comment regarding my 10 yr old......but a similar thing did just happen to him...and he fixed it himself.. rlh24 Posted March 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 The problem is I do not just have a windows install disk. I only have the complete reinstall disk from the manufactuer of the computer.
Aggr3 Posted March 13, 2005 CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 rlh24 ...so you don't have a windows disk...only a system back disk..or a system restore disk ...right??
netmasta Posted March 13, 2005 CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 Mabey a system restore would help. You can also shut down, logoff or restart using the "shutdown" command in a dos box. Start>> Run >> cmd >>shutdown Below are the options. C:Documents and SettingsPeter>shutdown /? Usage: shutdown [-i | -l | -s | -r | -a] [-f] [-m computername] [-t xx] [-c "c omment"] [-d up:xx:yy] No args Display this message (same as -?) -i Display GUI interface, must be the first option -l Log off (cannot be used with -m option) -s Shutdown the computer -r Shutdown and restart the computer -a Abort a system shutdown -m computername Remote computer to shutdown/restart/abort -t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds -c "comment" Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters) -f Forces running applications to close without war ning -d [p]:xx:yy The reason code for the shutdown u is the user code p is a planned shutdown code xx is the major reason code (positive integer le ss than 256) yy is the minor reason code (positive integer le ss than 65536)
rlh24 Posted March 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 13, 2005 I have found the problem causing this. It was a setting in XP Smoker Pro. This setting had to be checked to show the option to "turn off computer"-- Enable Shutdown from Authentication Dialog Box . Thanks for all the suggestions to correct this issue.
