Lordoftheweb Posted March 23, 2005 CID Share Posted March 23, 2005 Which will give me a faster internet speed. DSL through my phone company, or through my cable company?
pitbull481 Posted March 23, 2005 CID Share Posted March 23, 2005 depends on what package you get. if both package (dsl and cable) are the same (ex. 3000/768) i would say cable
REH Posted March 23, 2005 CID Share Posted March 23, 2005 typicaly cable connections are faster that DSL connections... who is your cable and phone company. -REH
BAF Posted March 24, 2005 CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 hmm, if both were 3m/768k i'd go with DSL. Its cheaper, and you tend to get the advertised speeds more, and they are more steady. That is assuming your ISP accounts for overhead in the provisionings.
peepnklown Posted March 24, 2005 CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 When the Cable infrastructure is well maintained Cable is far faster than DSL. Also with DOCSIS 2.0 Cable got a big upgrade. Anything is better than dial up but with a 5.5mbit down during peak times and 7.4mbit down during the other hours, 800kbits up during peak times and 1mbit up during the other hours, Cable is a champ. Lordoftheweb Posted March 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 The cable tv box is right behind my house, so i think the internet comes from there. The dsl comes from miles away. My internet seems fast, but when i see other posters numbers here, it makes me think i could get it faster! :haha:
REH Posted March 24, 2005 CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 you have an average of around 2500kbps, that's not too shabby. So you're on which? DSL or Cable? What are your advertised speeds? -REH
Lordoftheweb Posted March 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 i am on DSL, and I do not know my advertised speed. I was told it was on my bill, but i dont have a copy.
netmasta Posted March 24, 2005 CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 Another thing that makes cable better is that speeds don't slow down if you are farther from their office. With DSL to get the best speeds you have to be within a certain number of feet (in thousands or less).
