ampz Posted March 25, 2005 CID Share Posted March 25, 2005 OK well to give you some information I live in bucks county which is about 30 mins from center city Philadelphia. Today I called verizon because in a blink I would dump comcast 6mbps for FIOS 15mbps So anyhow they told me its not available in my area yet but the tech guessed it around 2 months. My question is. What do I have to do to prepare for FIOS? ex. get a new NIC card? Run any wires? Do I need a new MB? hehe any comments would be great! Thanks all. vetteman Posted March 25, 2005 CID Share Posted March 25, 2005 1. You may want to run a new CAD5/6 from the NID(Verzion's Network Interface Device) to where you want your router. This will save the installer some time, and they only go in the attic if it has a floor and lighting. Otherwise they will wrap the house with the cable. 2. I have heard that you have to have enough ram to operate something like XP. 3. I have also heard that some customer's have had older NIC cards that do not work with this network. Good luck,
KingCobra Posted March 25, 2005 CID Share Posted March 25, 2005 Most likely, whatever you have with Comcast will be just fine with Verizon FIOS. However there are a few things to consider, especially if you want to plan for the future: 1.
