BlazingSpeed Posted July 25, 2004 CID Share Posted July 25, 2004 can anyone tell me how to you use the logviewer for my linksys wireless g router...and one more thing does the router have to be connected to my computer to use my logviewer...as of right now my desktop is using the wireless g desktop card
Swimmer Posted July 26, 2004 CID Share Posted July 26, 2004 The log viewer is used to see who and what are connecting with your router... It is really useful if you think people are stealing your service.... What the log viewer will tell you is when people connected, when the dhcp is renewed and other stats that can be helpful to IT people.... The log runs with out a desktop running on the router... It is run by the internal processor on the router itself and it stored in the ram onboard...
BlazingSpeed Posted July 26, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 26, 2004 see my router is in a different room and the only connection is the wireless desktop card so can i still use it or does it have to be connected by wire
Swimmer Posted July 26, 2004 CID Share Posted July 26, 2004 You should be able to connect via wireless... open IE and type 192.168.1.245 Then click the log tab on the top.. I am going off the tech support guide for the WAP54G.. It might be a little different for you... If the Log isnt turned on just turn it on and then check back in a little while... otherwise you can start looking at what your router has been doing for quite a while... Swimmer Posted July 27, 2004 CID Share Posted July 27, 2004 Sorry about that... that was the config menu for the AP (access point) not the wireless router... The correct address is 192.168.1.1 Then just take a look around... you cant do any damage if you dont change anything...

Swimmer Posted July 31, 2004 CID Share Posted July 31, 2004 The router has a built in log that can display information in two ways. First, the log must be enabled and will need to be set to send the log output to a machine on the network. To do this, open your browser and go to http://192.168.1.1, You will be prompted for a username and password. By default there is no username and the password is admin. Click on the Log tab from the Setup screen. Once that is done, you will need to enable the log, and input the IP address of the desired log capturing computer (Preferably using a static IP address for that machine). There are also two buttons that will bring up pop-up windows showing the Router's most recent activity. The incoming log table displays the source IP and Destination Port Number. The outgoing log table shows the LAN IP, Destination IP / URL, and Service / Port Number. To view the files on the computer you choose, you can click on the link on this page, and download the LogViewer program. This program will record and store the information from the log into two text files named "Incoming" and "Outgoing". These files have no size limit so we advise you to purge them periodically.
