ryebread Posted May 26, 2005 CID Share Posted May 26, 2005 I've done a search, but can't really figure it out. I don't have a strong networking background. I have a Linksys WRT54GP2 v. 4 router with a WMP54G wireless card, and a RCA dcm425 cable modem (comcast, not sure which speed). My brother's computer is wired directly with an ethernet cable and gets d/l speeds of around 550 - 600kbps. In the next room over, with an excellent signal at all times, my comp only d/ls at 50-100kbps. There is no security enabled. Also, my computer is already running SP2. Even transfers over the network are slow, only getting about 1700k as opposed to the ~7000k when my computer was wired up.I d/led the TCPoptimizer, but that didnt do anything that I'm aware of, and I have no clue what all those numbers mean. ryebread Posted May 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 27, 2005 My brother's computer is almost identical and he got the same scores as I did... What I'm trying to say is that the scores and the actual download rates don't match up at all. For example, it usually took about 90 seconds to transfer a 700mb movie file between computers over the network using wires (Approx 7mb a second). It now took closer to 10 minutes to do the same thing with wireless...
ryebread Posted June 1, 2005 Author CID Share Posted June 1, 2005 Well, we upgraded to the faster comcast speed, however I've not seen any real increase in speed... Any suggestions? I'm still only getting about 3mbps. If anyone needs to know anymore info, ask away.
cak46 Posted June 1, 2005 CID Share Posted June 1, 2005 Don't know much about wireless except it will be slower than wired... no matter how much tweaking you do. Also, one post would be ok, intsead of four or five....... Did you follow the instruction in the stick for this topic?
