wingzero2309 Posted August 15, 2004 CID Share Posted August 15, 2004 I have 2 computers and i have a wireless router(linksys befw11sr 802.11b). I want to set up a network in a way so that i can have a folder that both computers are able to access, and also i want it so that one computer can print stuff off of the printer connected to the other computer. Is this possible? heres how the network is setup so far(both computers have internet access)
Swimmer Posted August 15, 2004 CID Share Posted August 15, 2004 looks good.. enable printer and file sharing and you should be set!! I would sugeest setting a "server" on your printer server computer... that way you dont have any proformance hits on any of your machines if someones acess a file
wingzero2309 Posted August 16, 2004 Author CID Share Posted August 16, 2004 how exactly do i set up a server? i got it to work so that i can share files via the My Shared Folder thing, and i also got it so we can print stuff off of eachothers printers. But print server? dont u need to buy one of those? also i noticed that i cant print off of another printer if the computer that is connected to it is off. Is there any way to make it so i can still access the printers without the computers having to be on? thx for the help
wingzero2309 Posted August 16, 2004 Author CID Share Posted August 16, 2004 oh i forgot to mention that both computers are running on Windows XP Home SP2...if that helps at all
Swimmer Posted August 17, 2004 CID Share Posted August 17, 2004 right... it isnt a real print server... just do what you did to the other computer but use one as the file server and then hook up the printer to that one also... they way you main computer take less of a hit when you are sharing files and printing...
