Help I dont know why im going so slow????

On my COmputer im going muxch slower than i should be, I have cabel internet, i tried the difference between my moms computer and heres gets much much faster speeds, Im not sure what would slow down your bandwidth but i have:

Pentium 3 with 127mb of ram

Im running Spybot Search and destroy, Ad-Aware, AVG Antivirus, Mcafee Antivirus and Firewall so I doubt its a virus or spyware.

I Have a 13gb HDD on C: a 1gb on D: and 2 cd Drives E: and F:

im running Windows ME.

have you done a power cycle(unplug cable modem wait 1-3 minutes and plug back on)?

is your computer connected router or straight through cable modem?

why you have 2 anti virus programs (AVG and MCAFEE)?

also what is your advertise speeds?

Disable all of those, and I'd suggest getting rid of Mcafee for what it's worth, especially disable that firewall.

Ive tried Power cycling, My advertised speed is problable like 1.5mb/s its just the basic charter cable internet, I have a direct connection, as for 2 virus scanners i like avg's functions and Mcafee is full pay version of both virus scanner and firewall so it probably can find more viruses then avg

Have you tweaked any settings maybey. You may need to reset them to default. Dont forget to scan for spyware and virus in safe mode. If nothing else you may need to try and tweak it.

Amazingly enough, just because you pay for it doesn't mean it's the best.

My friend Slasher had similar reports on charter.com

Now, unless you're really him with a different name... Are you? 

Just temporarily disable that firewall.

Do you have a router? If so, directly connect your modem to your computer and post back any results... Also, go through the stickies in the Make it Faster section, please.

FWIW, my router's firewall doesn't seem to affect my speed, but my AV does.

Ill try disabling everything and running my scanners in safe mode, then ill test it, I know nothing about tweaking so im not sure if anything needs to be reset etc. I have a direct connection from my modem, no router, and no im not ur friend with the simular problem but however maybe whatever worked for him would work for me.

With my Virus Scanners firewalls and adware programs off(nothing running) I get a little more speed but still not enough, Havent Yet run the scanners in safe mode, cant remember how to get to safe mode on WIndows ME:

I ran my virus scanners and ad-ware scanners in safe mode, no viruses, a couple minor adware things running  a little better now, i have avg and spybot on and imn getting:

You know, there was a day when DSL and cable meant 256 kb/s...

In charter's fine print for the high speed, it says it might vary for area. Give em' a call and see what it "really" should be in your area.
