FallowEarth Posted July 8, 2005 CID Share Posted July 8, 2005 hey, sholsten. a few questions: what kind of modem do you have? router? ethernet/USB/wireless? what version of windows? firewall/antivirus/spyware? ...just to start....
sholsten Posted July 8, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 8, 2005 I have the Motorola SB 5100 hooked to the onboard Lan and it is set down to 1/2 duplex 10 mbps. I'm using Win XP and it's Firewall with Norton System Works 2003. I run Adaware and Spybot often.
FallowEarth Posted July 8, 2005 CID Share Posted July 8, 2005 I'm sorry, router or no? And which Internet browser do you use? Norton auto-protect enabled or no? Do you have instant messengers or file-sharing programs running usually, or anything else that uses the Internet connection? Have you checked out the links in my sig? Have you tried cablenut tweaks? SB5100 should be fine for your speeds, btw. Not making any promises (your speeds are just dandy as they stand) but we'll see if we can get you hooked up. sholsten Posted July 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 10, 2005 I use a router on a seperate NIC for my home network. RR connects directly to the onboard NIC and I don't share the net connection with the network. I disable Norton's for the tests. I don't run IM's or keep file-sharing programs running. I used the 8000/512 Cablenut tweak.

For the purposes of this test, can you go into Norton's and configure it so that it doesn't start when windows starts? I believe you click options and empty the checkbox to start up when windows starts. Then reboot your machine and try the test at the link that VanBuren provided (make sure all other programs are shutdown too). This is just on a whim, but if you want to try it, it may make a difference....
