FallowEarth Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 welcome to the forum, saintly-hellion sounds like you're on the right track! what are your advertised speeds? have you tried to test your speed with a direct connection to your modem? You can find support and upgrades for that model router here just select which one you have.
saintly-hellion Posted July 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 Thanks for the reply. When connected directly to the router: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3191 Kbps about 3.2 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 389 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Thu Jul 14 22:36:01 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 57X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.63 sec Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 90.19 % of your hosts average (cgocable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-KPLNWBXZ9 Connected directly to the modem: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3094 Kbps about 3.1 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 378 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Thu Jul 14 22:38:25 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 55X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.71 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 87.45 % of your hosts average (cgocable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-O7ZFUC8GX As for the advertised speeds downloads are up to 5Mbps and uploads are up to 640 Kbps. Thanks for the link to the modem upgrade. I am a little unsure what settings I need to copy down so that I can manually add them once I upgrade so if you know what I should be writing down I would most appreciate the knowledge before I assume and screw myself over. Thanks again
FallowEarth Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 I'd suggest looking through the following links for some pointers, or for something you may have overlooked: 1st stop: https://testmy.net/forum/t-2097 2nd stop: https://testmy.net/topic-4257 Sometimes software can interfere with the test results: firewalls, IM's, AV's, p2p's, toolbars/optimizers, and the likes, so try to test with these turned off or disabled. You can also find cablenut tweaks here, just download the most current zip file and select the setting for your advertised speeds.
saintly-hellion Posted July 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 17, 2005 I have tried every tweak suggested on forum/t-2097 and it seems I am getting worse DL speeds then before (but only when connecting via my router) :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2238 Kbps about 2.2 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 273 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sun Jul 17 17:59:50 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 40X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.75 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 63.31 % of your hosts average (cgocable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-AJ5IZCSG7 when hooked directly up to the router: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3922 Kbps about 3.9 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 479 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Sun Jul 17 18:06:45 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 70X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.14 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 10.95 % faster than the average for host (cgocable.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-GH0U94R2L I have gone to a static IP address, defraged ... everything I can think of. I am sitting about a foot away from the router so it is not a matter of having a weak signal, and the simple solution is, I know, to constantly use an ethernet cable and remain hooked up to the router but then what was the point of going wireless? Any suggestions? Thanks.
