devin1229 Posted July 16, 2005 CID Share Posted July 16, 2005 I have a NetGear WGR614v3 router. I've had this thing for like 2 years. As of Tuesday, I have no idea what happened. I came home from work and couldn't connect to the internet. Sometimes this happens, so I just reset the router and then it works again. I proceeded to do this and still couldn't connect. I figured it was just a network problem with my cable company (BrightHouse Networks) because we just had a crazy Central Florida thunderstorm. I waited like, 2 hours and tried resetting it again. Still nothing. I unplugged both devices overnight and tried again in the morning. Still nothing. Here's the kicker: if I remove the router and connect directly to the modem via ethernet cable, I can connect. I find it hard to believe it's my router configuration because this thing has worked perfectly for 2 years. I called BrightHouse which passed me on to RoadRunner who had me reset both the cable modem and router a million times with no avail. We also tried using different cables. Ok, I figure my router is shot somehow and by a new one: a Linksys. That one does the same exact thing. No connection to the modem, but modem solo is fine. At this point, BrightHouse won't touch the subject since, technically, the cable modem is working when in a non-router environment. RoadRunner won't do anything either. I have no idea what to do this point. I tried different MAC addresses, plugging in static IP's/DNS's that I got by ipconfig-ing the cable modem. Nothing. Any suggestions? It's going to suck if I have to unplug and swap cords whenever I use my other computer. My two computers are an iMac G4 and a PC w/ WinXP. KingCobra Posted July 16, 2005 CID Share Posted July 16, 2005 Do you have a friend that you could take the router to and try it on their connection? If it works on another connection, you know the router is ok. If it doesn't, then it's probable the router is dead.
