resijs Posted July 22, 2005 CID Share Posted July 22, 2005 Finally, I got the last upgrade from Verizon before hitting FiOS, 3.0 down, and 786 up. I understand that the average is 2.7 down for most verizon users? :::.. My upload is right on the money though. :::.. As you would know, I've already followed all the stickies many times before and have done so again to make doublt certain. I also power cycled everything, took out the tweaks, etc. Here are my ping and tracert results. My old ping was 60 so that's great. Another thing, since I'm not so sure of what I have, and neither is the Verizon "Encore" Support team, I'm wondering if there's anyway to tell if I have PPPoE or something else? MSS - 1460 MTU - 1500 (Behind a router, Linksys WRT54G Wireless G Router.) Thank you!
MYRIAGON Posted July 22, 2005 CID Share Posted July 22, 2005 I went to verizon site and I saw this one little blurb but they didn't get to elaborate. your Verizon Online DSL connection probably utilizes PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet). I think if that is true the MTU should be 1492 but I haven't messed with DSL in a while so......Ya might want to check with someone that knows more than I........ EDIT: I found this but it still depends on if you have pppoe or not, might want to change it for pppoe and try a download speed test and see if it's better or not, if not put it back where it was. Q: What is the MTU? (#7801)
