gotmilk Posted July 28, 2005 CID Share Posted July 28, 2005 I have a D-link DI-524 wireless router, here is a ping test from the kitchen wired computer to the wireless computer in my room. Ping statistics for 192.168.0.104: Packets: Sent = 851, Received = 822, Lost = 29 (3% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 589ms, Average = 17ms And here is a ping test from room computer to the kitchen computer (I know this wasn't necessary but I did it anyway) Ping statistics for 192.168.0.100: Packets: Sent = 911, Received = 889, Lost = 22 (2% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 551ms, Average = 10ms The ping to my room shouldn't be that bad should it? Help please? Just to give you an idea of how much speed I'm losing I'll do some speed tests on both computers. Wired: :::.. Swimmer Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 Ok the first problem I see with this is the word Kitchen.. This infers microwave in my mind. Microwaves are huge no-nos in the world of wireless networks. You are dropping more to the router because my guess would be it is farther than the other computer is from the kitchen. My suggestion, this may work may not, would be to try channel 11 and 1 just to see if you can get around the microwave. Also do you have a 2.4 ghz wireless phone in this kitchen? I'm going to use this from now on. EDIT: And another with the 12160 KB test: :::.. gotmilk Posted August 6, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 6, 2005 I'm using a Netgear WG111 USB adapter. That's the one I was getting a crappy signal with.
FallowEarth Posted August 6, 2005 CID Share Posted August 6, 2005 You can link to download the latest drivers for that adapter HERE.
Swimmer Posted August 6, 2005 CID Share Posted August 6, 2005 I am not a huge fan of the USB adaptors.. you can get about 44.2mbps at the router if you are right next to it.. and about 6.2 at 200 feet.. according to cnet. Try the drivers and see what happens.. the other thing that you might consider doing would be to relocate your wired computer..
