emperorplucky Posted August 7, 2005 CID Share Posted August 7, 2005 I am a noobie to broadband so please do not flame me. I heard about people "Uncapping" their cable broadband speed to get faster speed and I have learned that this is illegal. Using Cablenut to tweak the registry to increase speed,is that "Uncapping". Thank you.I wanted to find out before I use it.
KingCobra Posted August 7, 2005 CID Share Posted August 7, 2005 All Cablenut does it provide you a graphical easy to use interface into the Windows settings to change options, buffer sizes, etc. There is nothing wrong with doing that. The cablenut program is free, but they will gladly accept donations. See http://www.cablenut.com for more info.
netmasta Posted August 7, 2005 CID Share Posted August 7, 2005 Welcome to the forums, emperorplucky As HaloBox said, Cablenut only changes certain Windows settings for better performance. Uncapping, would be hacking into your modem, and changing settings on a certain file. Even if you own your modem, it would still be illegal. So, tweak your computer as much as you want! gotmilk Posted August 8, 2005 CID Share Posted August 8, 2005 Yeah you're 388 Kbps above your cap, I'd say that's pretty good. I can barely even get to my cap.
emperorplucky Posted August 8, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 8, 2005 Does the speed fluctuate during the day? I sometimes run the test throughout the day just to see what it says and sometimes the speed will differ from a previous test.
resopalrabotnick Posted August 8, 2005 CID Share Posted August 8, 2005 the speed will fluctuate during the day, depends on how your providers traffic situation is, if you're running any big progs, sunspots etc.
