bigw Posted August 18, 2005 CID Share Posted August 18, 2005 Hey guys this might be dumb but what is the difference between ecc and non-ecc rambus ram? I want to buy some but need to know what to buy!!
MYRIAGON Posted August 18, 2005 CID Share Posted August 18, 2005 ECC means "error correcting code", it will detect errors in your memory and also correct it, it's more expensive and you have to make sure your M.B. supports it.

MYRIAGON Posted August 19, 2005 CID Share Posted August 19, 2005 You can get a program to tell you , I use Everest, it tells you a lot of things about your PC including the memory. You can download below if you want.
bigw Posted August 19, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 19, 2005 Thank you it is non-ecc! would any non-ecc work with it so long as it is the same mb?
MYRIAGON Posted August 19, 2005 CID Share Posted August 19, 2005 You would want to try to get as close a match as possible, such as speed and cas latency, I haven't messed with rambus too much, but I'm pretty sure it should be matched as close as possible to what you have already, not the brand name but the specs.
