Guest PeePs Posted October 27, 2004 CID Share Posted October 27, 2004 8. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware. I was just wondering, what exactly is that, and how do i do it? I have 3 networks computers, networked through a linksys router. VanBuren: I don't have the most up-to-date drivers for my NIC, as they were impossible to install. Whenever I change the setting from AutoSelect to 100 full duplex it asks for a file called protman.dos, and it's simply not there on the win98 CD AFAIK. Got tips? luwigie Posted October 27, 2004 CID Share Posted October 27, 2004 I am pretty sure that protman.dos is actually one of the driver files. Possibly that release of drivers is bad? If it is in fact something that should come off of the Windows 98 cd, then it would be in *:Win98*.cab. Just use the search function in Windows and make sure it is set to search cab files.
