resopalrabotnick Posted October 28, 2005 CID Share Posted October 28, 2005 the speed problem may be simply one of distance. awful long way with a lot of possible bottlenecks from there to the server. try reading the two links in my sig and post the info requested, some improvement may be possible. also try to dl from somewhere more local and see if that gives you more speed, better yet find a speedtest site with a local server. FallowEarth Posted October 28, 2005 CID Share Posted October 28, 2005 You can try a traceroute to get a visual representation of what resopalrabotnick is suggesting about the distance factor.

resopalrabotnick Posted October 29, 2005 CID Share Posted October 29, 2005 tweaking is easy, you just need to figue out the values or have someone figure them out and then there is programs that set them in the registry foryou. it's no sweat. the traceroute is a command that basically pings every rouer on the path from you to the server you are tracing to. i then displays the 'hops' the packets make on that path as the individual lines in the result.the result contains the ping times to the router for 3 pings and the id assigned to the router. since most providers/backbone operators assign some form of name that gives a hint to the location you can more or less figure out where your data is going and where any bottlenecks are that slow you down. FallowEarth Posted October 31, 2005 CID Share Posted October 31, 2005 If you know the IP address (ie. the IP address of the router, provided by the traceroute), you can look up its location and company using the WHOIS. https://testmy.net/whois.php http://www.arin.net/whois/
