hiphopmenace Posted November 24, 2005 CID Share Posted November 24, 2005 Hello. I was wondering if i can go surpass the advertised speed of my connection. I have Charter Communication 3Mbps cable internet. I'm also in California. Well I tried cablenut and a couple of the settings. Here are my results from www.testmy.net. Just wondering if I can go pass 3Mbps. I'm on a wireless network, using D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 (rev. network adapter. The modem is directly connected to my sister computer which is upstair. My wireless network connection signal strength says that it's low. The house also has wireless telephones and I have one right here in my room a couple feet away from the computer. The stats of my test are pretty good. But I'm just wondering if I can do any better because of all the interference that I have in my house. [wireless phones, signal strength low due to modem being upstairs, etc.] Thanks! :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2999 Kbps about 3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 366 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Thu Nov 24 2005 12:24:48 GMT-0800 (Pacific Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 54X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.8 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 15.21 % faster than the average for host (charter.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-OU8Y340IQ
resopalrabotnick Posted November 25, 2005 CID Share Posted November 25, 2005 some providers cap your modem at faster than advertised speed. read the 2 links in my sig and post all info, some tweaking might give you a gain. but don't count on it. cdf216 Posted November 25, 2005 CID Share Posted November 25, 2005 in all honesty you're already surpassing your cap by quite a bit. Remember the Testmy speed test is an average rate over the entire download, in order to hit 2999 you have to over 3000 for most (90%) of the test. download Netstat live from analog X and use it to monitor your speed during the test.
