Always connect to your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it depends on the ISP service unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware." i dont understand this paragraph. im using a wireless router with a wireless LAN connection. 8. don't understand. 9-14. i already have a spyware programe and i have a firewall in my router. 15. i have Cablenut 4.08, but i don't know how to use it. even when i downloaded the Vanburens cablenut settings version 7 , i don't know which is suited to my computer. 16. i don't think i'll even be able to tweak it myself given my low knowledge of computers. ok, i've done those steps, and i really hope someone can tell me what to do coz i really have to idea what im doing. thanx a million.. FallowEarth Posted November 26, 2005 CID Share Posted November 26, 2005 hey white33, welcome to the forum. Your upload is nice. Do you have an ethernet card on your PC? If so, I would try to connect your PC directly to your modem. ie. unplug the ethernet cord from the router and put it in the PC. Then shut down the PC, unplug the modem, wait 2 mins, plug in the modem, start up PC. Then test you download speed once again. Also, I'm seeing Singapore. Distance to the server can play a big role. You can try some of the mirrors here: https://testmy.net/mirrors.php
white33 Posted November 26, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 26, 2005 thanks.. im sorry but may i know what an ethernet card is? and how do i know what it looks like? btw, i forgot to mention that my pc can't be directly connected to my modem (also my router is my modem) coz my cpu does not have the connection thingy to connect it. That's why i had to go wireless with it. what should i do now? thanks again...
FallowEarth Posted November 26, 2005 CID Share Posted November 26, 2005 OK, basically answered your own question. Ethernet card, or Network Interface Card (NIC), is the spot you stick the cable from the modem. So we can scratch that. ~Well, the next step I'd try is to update the drivers for your wireless adapter. Right click my computer, choose properties. Click the device manager tab, click to select view devices by type, and click the plus next to network adapters to expand it. List your entries here if you're not sure which is your wireless. To update the drivers, go to the website of the vendor of the adapter. ~You could try restoring your browser: Internet Explorer 6 -open Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options -under the General tab: -click "Delete Cookies" and click "ok" to the dialogue box -click "Delete Files", put a check where it says "delete all offline content" and click "ok" to the dialogue box -click "Clear history" and click yes to the dialogue box -where it says "Days to keep pages in history" set it to 5 or less (the default is 20) -under the Security tab: -click the "Default level" button -under the Privacy tab: -click the "Default" button -under the Connections tab: -make sure it is set to "Never dial a connection" -click the "LAN Settings" button, set it to "Automatically detect settings" and click ok -under the Programs tab: -click the "Reset web settings" button, click "yes" to the dialogue box -under the Advanced tab: -click the "Restore defaults" button -click apply, then ok -close and reopen Internet Explorer, test for browsing on a few different site Mozilla FireFox -select Tools from the menu bar and then click on Options -select General from the menu on the left and click on the Connection Settings button -put a dot in Auto-detect proxy settings for this network -select the Privacy Icon from the left menu and clear all values ~I would also suggest getting some additional spyware removers. Lavasoft Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/index.htm Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/microsoft.en.html Both work great with Win98.
