Bird Fan Posted December 18, 2005 CID Share Posted December 18, 2005 First of all, try the largest download file, as it is more accurate. If your speed is still slow, make sure you don't have any spyware, adware, malware, viruses, trojans, etc. on your system that would be slowing you down. Try this page for help: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=4257.0 Then, see what your rate code is by going here: http://192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html Then, try force ranging (I have a screenshot of where you can find it uploaded below). You can try The Reverend's settings from the link below. To use them, you need TCP Optimizer from speedguide.net http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=1703.0 If you still don't see any improvement, go to the Direcway forum on Dslreports.com, they might be able to help you out more there. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat
JimPrice Posted December 18, 2005 CID Share Posted December 18, 2005 That's pretty bad, James. Here's a few questions to help me figure out how to help you. 1. How long ago was your system installed? 2. Did your installer have any trouble getting your dish to properly cross poll? (if you know what that means) 3. What is your system cross polling at now? (hint: go to http://192.168.0.1/stats/acp/acpShow.html in your browser and look at the line item Last Revalidate Isolation...what's that number?) 4. Just curious...what's your recieved signal strength? You can see this at http://192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html as line item Signal Strength. This can vary by bird and your location, and the current weather. I believe anything over 47 is useable, but ideally you want a much higher number. You have the same package I do, and we are both pointed at the same bird. My setup is fairly simple; I have a Linksys 54G router in between my DW7000 and my PC, and this is an average speed test for me. You should see numbers like this as well: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1024 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 125 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sat Dec 17 23:06:03 CST 2005 Bottom Line:: 18X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.19 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 10.82 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-2PL6UAQEH

Bird Fan Posted December 18, 2005 CID Share Posted December 18, 2005 Good download speed, that's what I was seeing earlier today. Typical for late night. Sorry, I misled you, use the largest test for download test only, and use the 579 kb test for upload. That should work.
Bird Fan Posted December 18, 2005 CID Share Posted December 18, 2005 what is ranging?.. these are my ranging stats.. Successful Rates | Unsuccessful Rates | Failed Rates | ----------------------+-----------------------+-----------------------+ 256k Turbo Code 1/2 256k Turbo Code 2/3 256k Turbo Code 4/5 Looks like you're one of the lucky ones on the 256 4/5, your speeds should be just fine. EDIT: I don't really know what ranging is, all I know is that the higher rate code you have the higher upload and download speeds you have (upload speed coming first because that is best advantage of being on a better rate code). They would know more on the direcway forum on dslreports.com.
