Guest PeePs Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Ok, so I'm building a new computer and I'm ganna use Arctic Silver thermal stuff for the processor and when I recieved my processor Athlon 64 3700+ the heatsink has like a pretty big scratch/chunk missing on it, but not where the Athlon Manufacturer thermal paste is. Basically the scratch isn't where the processor will touch the heatsink or where i need to apply Arctic Silver. This won't cause any overheating will it? richcornucopia Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 It shouldn't be that big of an issue if its just a scratch. Maybe you could post a picture so we can see how big the scratch is. resopalrabotnick Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 chunk missing sounds like more than a scratch. if you take a pic try to put a ruler next to it so we can get some scale. asaskater Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 if you have a good connection to the processor it wont inhibit your performance unless your missing like half of the heatsink. I wouldn't worry about it...but if you insist, you can get a new one for like 10 bucks. Guest PeePs Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 I went ahead and used it anyways and it seems to be working fine. After running the computer for like 2 hours straight with windows XP installation it was at 35 degrees C. resopalrabotnick Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 i think i remember something about damaged heatsinks falsifying the temp readings...
