  1. Most new homes like yours are having the phone jacks run with CAT5e wire, that homeruns back to a patch panel in the garage. If you are lucky and that's whatyou have, they can convert the line that goes into the room with the computer to a data line. If the jack in that room is in a wall plate, you can remove it and see if you might even have a spare CAT5e in there. A lot of new wiring bundles put 2 CAT5e and 2 RG6 cables to each room. That's what they meant by depends on your current wiring. You pretty much have to tell us what wiring you have from that room back to the phone, cable, central location before we can tell you much more.

    What they usually say is that they won't do attics that are not floored and lit, and not fishing walls does not always preclude them going through the top or bottom plate on a wall to push the wire in to the outlet position. That plate, of course, has to be exposed. They, unlike an electrician, won't do anything that requires a hole in your drywall to do a fish. Some of this stuff, also, is the luck of the draw, as far as your installer is concerned. The more experienced may be capable of some of the more tricky details, but as a rule they all do their best, within the limits Verizon gives them,  to make sure you're happy.

    Worst case, no other good options, they'll take it to the outside, run it around the house, and drill the wall where the outlet is going. They do their best to hide it as it goes around the house.

  2. Has anyone seen the full 2000Kbps up yet? I've only saw 1800ish..

    I can consistently see all of my 2M up, but I can't see it on  testmy tests.

    Pittsburgh to Dallas apparently is a rough route as I can see the stalls, minor

    though they may be, it's enough to affect my results. I was using the web100

    test at RIT NY, but they seem to have taken it down, so these results are from

    I used the cablenut mask that HaloBox had posted, but wasn't seeing all of the

    up till I switched to this one. Don't know why. Haven't had a chance to do all the

    reboots to try and isolate which settings help with the up side on the tests.

  3. Don't know why you wouldn't be able to get an upgrade then, unless your loop is right at the limit. Your tests don't indicate that. It looks like you're getting all of 768.

    I'd try 2 more billing CSRs on Monday. A little phone roulette to see if you can get someone that knows what they, and you, are talking about. Don't spend a lot of time on hold though. If you don't get any satisfaction, call Customer Relations, former Presidential Appeals at 1-800-483-7988  option 3 and leave them a short accurate message about your problem getting an upgrade. They will call you back after they look into what's going on. They're the people at Verizon that can make things happen, but they want to see in your records that you've tried resolving your issue with the correct department first.

    If you can access your modem at 192.168.1.1 in your browser, post your transceiver stats. They'll be under the troubleshooting menu in the modem.

    It looks like they raised it, found it unstable, put it back down. It's more likely that the card at the DSLAM didn't hold the settings and fell back, or your profile got corrupted.

  5. The problem with FiOS right now is it's a needle in a haystack, especially in a town you don't live in now. Hunting for it by town, city, or zipcode won't do much for you, since it's built out 1 CO at a time.

    Pittsburgh has FiOS. But Allegheny County has over 50 COs. Over 30 are considered city and near suburbs. It's lit in 4 COs with 4-7 more in various stages of build out. Beyond those COs, calling yields no information.

    I'd suggest looking here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/vzfiber Put Norfolk in the search box at the top right, and scan the threads it pulls up. Where the starting points (CO) are, and the direction they go in to the next one (CO) make sense only to Verizon.
